I started painting five years after retiring from the newspaper industry. I paint in oil and acrylics, as well as write children’s books, hand paint oyster shell ornaments, wine glasses, trivets, and have coasters and note cards for sale.
During my professional career I designed and coordinated promotional advertising for the various departments of the newspaper, and won numerous regional and national awards. I became the first female President and Publisher of the Chillicothe (Ohio) Gazette, a Gannett newspaper. I finished my career at the Cincinnati (Ohio) Enquirer in 2001. I am now residing in Arlington, Virginia, close to my son Jay and family, who reside in McLean, Virginia
In 2011, I moved to Cape Coral Florida with my husband, Warner, where I continued to develop my art career. I became a managing partner of the Harbour View Art Gallery at Cape Harbour in Cape Coral, Florida and a past participant with art work displayed at the Coco Art Gallery at Coconut Point. During the pandemic we moved to Arlington, Virginia to be close to our son. Warner died of COVID two weeks after moving.
I am a past member of the Pine Island (Florida) Art League, the Cape Coral (Florida) Art League, the Alliance for the Arts, Fort Myers, Florida, a former delegate to the Southwest Florida Council, a former member of the Mason-Deerfield (Ohio) Arts Alliance and the Mason Area Painters Society. I am now a member of the McLean Art Society and the Arlington Artists Alliance in Virginia,
I have received several Honorable Mentions and Merit awards at the annual Pine Island shows. In addition I received first place and People’s Choice awards at the Cape Coral Art Show, a first place award at a Vinson Hall show in McLean and a People’s Choice award at a McLean Art Society show.
Along with selling my artwork on display at various art shows in Virginia, I accept commissions to paint.
